KELLY SAYLOR MACC, LCMHC (NC), LMFT (NC), AAMFT-S, LCMHC-QS, BC-TMH, CCTP, CCATP, C-DBT, ADHD-CCSP

Hello, my name is Kelly Saylor, and I am very passionate about supervising counselors who would like to enter into the specialization of Christian counselors.  I supervise licensed and pre-licensed counselors pursuing to be licensed marriage and family counselors and licensed clinical mental health counselors.  From my own supervisory experiences, I have seen how influential and helpful the clinical supervision experience is, and this is my same goal when working with each supervisee.

Background and Training

I have my Master of Arts degree in Christian counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary – Charlotte.  I have been counseling since 2007 and I am currently a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in North Carolina.  I also provide counseling services in South Carolina and Florida.  I have supervised as a teacher’s assistant at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.  I am also the owner and director of SureHope Counseling and Training Center.

Areas of expertise

Throughout my career I have provided counseling for children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, groups and organizations. Some of my clinical specialties include mood and anxiety disorders, marital therapy (enrichment to affair recovery), trauma, addiction (specifically process addictions and sex/porn addiction), and I also specialize in issues involving faith and spirituality.  I practice from a wide range of models (Narrative, CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, and systems).

Approach to supervision

I view supervision in developmental terms, with students or new therapists requiring direct guidance, teaching and support. For more seasoned clinicians, I view supervision as more collaborative, which include but is not limited to working through issues such as transference and countertransference.  I expect the supervisee to videotape all of their sessions. We will spend a portion of each supervision session watching and critiquing a portion of the session. We will also use supervision to discuss issues such as client conceptualization, accurate diagnosing, professional and ethical issues and effective interventions. Goals of supervision include helping the supervisee to further increase their clinical skills and to develop both competence and confidence in the field.
