“What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself.”

  • Abraham Maslow

Welcome! I am so glad to be here with you.

Suffering is a part of the human experience, but you were never meant to be alone in your struggles. Your circumstances do not define you, no matter how much shame or difficulty you have experienced. Therapy is not the solution to all problems, but it can provide you with a safe space to experience warmth, growth, and understanding. My goal as a therapist is to sit well with my clients and empower them to grow in self-awareness and walk in the ways of healing.

About Me

My name is Audrey, I am a counseling intern here at SureHope. I am pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Liberty University. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University in psychology with a cognate in counseling. I have 2.5 years of experience in Christian counseling and I began my clinical mental health counseling fieldwork in January 2024.

I have experience in serving teens, adolescents with intellectual disabilities, adults and children with autism, young adults with anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, mood disturbances, schizophrenia, adjustment disorders, childhood trauma, and teens with post-traumatic stress disorder. My areas of expertise include body-image issues, adjustment disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, anger, stress-related disorders, and Christian counseling. I also provide pre-marital counseling services utilizing SYMBIS and work with couples struggling with relationship conflicts and communication.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, the outdoors, photography, reading, traveling, and watching good movies.

My Approach

I believe that all people are worthy of love, empathy, and acceptance, and this belief colors my therapeutic approach. My approach is primarily rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The CBT approach targets core beliefs from which dysfunction is rooted: “I am helpless”, “I am worthless”, and “I am unlovable”. Out of CBT, I utilize rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) to assist clients in identifying self-defeating thoughts and feelings, challenge the nature of irrational and unproductive feelings, and replace them with healthier, more productive beliefs. REBT accepts emotions and feelings as valid and empowers clients to fight cognitive distortions and reframe thinking.

I ascribe to a person-centered therapy approach and integrate elements of Gestalt therapy, attachment theory, emotionally focused therapy, and Christian spirituality in counseling. I also explore relationship patterns with my clients to understand cycles of dysfunction, conflict, tension, and health.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I would be honored to work with you!
