Trauma Counseling SureHope Counseling & Training Center

Some life experiences can impact your physical and mental health weeks or even years after they occur.  If you have experienced an event that continues to affect your daily life, we can help you through trauma counseling at SureHope Counseling & Training Center.   Our trained trauma therapists are here to help you experience peace again.

Traumatic events in life can be big events, but at times even seemingly small events can lead to changes in your thoughts and feelings that continue to impact your life.   According to MHFA, “trauma can include things like verbal, physical or sexual abuse; emotional or physical neglect; a significant loss; alcohol/drug exposure; poverty; bullying, racism or discrimination; or even a pandemic.”  Additionally, other events such as witnessing an accident, divorce, or the loss of a job can be traumatic.

Everyone reacts to trauma differently, these events may cause distressing symptoms or even PTSD.

Signs you may have experienced trauma:

Intrusive thoughts and memories

Feelings of shame

Excessive guilt

Irritability and angry outbursts

Difficulty feeling positive emotions

Numbness or dissociation

Chronic health conditions

Hyperarousal causing sleep disturbances or a lower threshold for startle responses

Find peace & experience joy again.

We utilize several forms of therapy that have been proven to be effective in treating trauma.  This includes EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Brainspotting, narrative therapy, psychodynamic therapy among others.

Several of our counselors including, Callie Gross, Kelly Saylor, Susan Steier, Jim Katsoudas and Ken Grano are trauma therapists who specialize in helping people overcome the negative effects of trauma in their lives.

What to expect from trauma counseling:

You’ll work with your trauma therapist to gain perspective on what you experienced and find tools to deal with the resulting effects.

In an article published by the NIH it’s noted that, “traumatic stress reactions are normal reactions to abnormal circumstances.” The article goes on to say that you may be experiencing one of two emotional extremes: “feeling either too much (overwhelmed) or too little (numb).” While this is a normal response to a traumatic event, it does not have to be how you continue to experience life.
