We utilize several forms of therapy that have been proven to be effective in treating trauma. This includes EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Brainspotting, narrative therapy, psychodynamic therapy among others.
Several of our counselors including, Callie Gross, Kelly Saylor, Susan Steier, Jim Katsoudas and Ken Grano are trauma therapists who specialize in helping people overcome the negative effects of trauma in their lives.
What to expect from trauma counseling:
You’ll work with your trauma therapist to gain perspective on what you experienced and find tools to deal with the resulting effects.
In an article published by the NIH it’s noted that, “traumatic stress reactions are normal reactions to abnormal circumstances.” The article goes on to say that you may be experiencing one of two emotional extremes: “feeling either too much (overwhelmed) or too little (numb).” While this is a normal response to a traumatic event, it does not have to be how you continue to experience life.
