Merry Christmas: O Holy Night, A Lament

We at SureHope Counseling & Training Center want to wish you and your family ma very Merry Christmas!

For the year of 2024, SureHope Counseling & Training Center has focused on the process of lamenting.  We have explored how lamenting is a spiritual practice that leads to mental, emotional, and spiritual healing.  We have explored the process of lamenting and the structure of lamenting we find Biblically.  Also, we have explored a variety of topics, and how these topics could be processed through lamenting.  We hope that this has been very helpful and has inspired the practice of lamenting in your life.  You can read about these blogs here!

As we end the year, it is a good reminder that the birth of Christ could be seen as a lament.

*Understanding the price that would be paid for God to come and be born in such a lowly way.

*To suffer more than we could ever imagine.

*All for the great love God has to be able to be with us for all eternity.

We are reminded about this great love and the great price that was paid by these simple lyrics:

O holy night
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
‘Til He appeared, and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine, O night when Christ was born
O night divine, O night, O night divine

Consider the following:

*The great pain and need– Long lay the world in sin and error pining

*God hearing our need and taking action – It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth

*The praise that proceeds – A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices

*No matter the need, when we lament, our eyes eventually turn to Christ and we experience the ultimate answer – ‘Til He appeared, and the soul felt its worth

I pray as you come to the end of this year, whatever ups and downs you have experienced, that you ultimately:

See your worth through Christ,

Seek your future direction through Christ,

Experience the joy that is only experienced in a relationship with Christ,

And remember, Christmas is all about Christ!

Matthew 1:18-25 KJV

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.
