We at SureHope Counseling & Training Center want to wish you a very Happy New Year!
As we begin 2025, many take a moment to reflect on the previous years and what is to come. As we go forward, some may make goals, or resolutions, to lose weight, finish a degree, read more, find that new job, or finish another noteworthy project. All of these are great; however, what if this year, the goal could not only have a significant influence in your own life but, also the relationships you go toward on a daily basis? Or, even a generational impact?
SureHope Counseling & Training Center will be dedicating 2025 to speaking about healing family of origin wounds!
In truth, many of the reasons individuals come to counseling is based on this very topic. Whether we see this clearly or not, so much of what we experience is based on those very early experiences in our life. Not that we are “blaming” someone, rather it is solely the goal of healing and going in a better direction. So, what would fit in this topic? Here are just a few possibilities:
Healing from the Mother wound
Healing from the Father wound
Healing from a parent with a personality disorder
Healing from the Narcissistic Parent
Healing from the Authoritarian Parent
Healing from the Permissive Parent
Healing from the Bereaved Parent: Divorced or Widowed
Healing from Toxic patterns in the Family
Healing from the Addicted Parent
Healing from the Depressed Parent
Healing from the Anxious Parent
Healing from the Workaholic Parent
Healing from the Achievement/Perfectionistic Focused Parent
Healing from the Neglectful Parent
Healing from the Parent with a Special Needs Family Member
Healing from being Parentified (Child as Parent)
As we start this journey, it is always best to remember what scripture says about this topic:
Exodus 34:7 ESV
Keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
I know this scripture can be hard for many. Also, some misunderstand fully what it is saying and other scriptures that bear witness to this scripture. I want to encourage reading the following article for an in-depth look and an understanding:
What is the iniquity of the fathers in Exodus 34:7? | GotQuestions.org
From reading that article, you see the heart of God. God is merciful, quick to forgive, and wants not only us to be in relationship with Him; but, also our future generations. Anyone that has went through difficulties growing up knows that there is an effect of sin and that the struggle is real. That is why SureHope wants to dedicate this year in helping to heal from these effects as well as being able to go forward in life in a much healthier way!
Always remember the ultimate character of God:
Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
Deuteronomy 7:9 KJV
