Hope for the New Year
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. You are being guarded by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. You rejoice in this, even though now for a short time, if necessary, you suffer grief in various trials so that the proven character of your faith—more valuable than gold which, though perishable, is refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:3-7 (CSB)
For most of us, 2020 has not been the year we expected. At many times, it was difficult to feel hopeful. Even going into a new year, many are apprehensive at what this year will bring. However, in the midst of this we still have a “living hope.” This Hope is not determined by our circumstances or what is happening in the world around us. This Hope is the enduring hope of eternity with our Savior. A Savior who came to earth to live as a man, give his life, and rise from the dead so that we may live forever in Heaven with Him. Jesus not only made a place for us in Heaven, but also wants to have a relationship with us now. He is the Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6) who understands our suffering (Hebrews 4:15-16) and longs to comfort you during this time. He’s not only our future hope, He’s also our hope right now – our Living Hope.
This New Year, I pray that you are encouraged, comforted, and filled by Jesus Christ, our Living Hope.
Happy ‘Hope-Filled’ New Year,
Jessica
