The Hope of the Resurrection

Luke 24:6 – “He is not here; He has risen!”

Easter season is finally here! As I’m writing this post, I’m sitting outside in the warm sun, looking at the flowers, and feeling a gentle breeze. I’m sure I’m not alone in my love of this season and all it brings. And while the spring weather, flowers, Easter egg hunts, and chocolate bunnies are all a part of the joy of this season, it’s also a time to remember something that doesn’t change like our weather – the hope of the resurrection of Christ. I was talking to a friend about what this hope means to her.

She shared that when she thinks of Easter, she thinks of “undeserved resurrection and the light I get to constantly live in without the need to hide in the darkness or in the shadow of the enemy because it’s what used to be more comfortable. Now there is comfort in the forgiveness of a resurrected King.” The hope of Easter isn’t just in the
light of the spring sun, but in the light of Jesus that casts out all darkness. When Christ died on the cross and was resurrected, He bought our freedom from this darkness. He set us free from our slavery to sin and the lies of the enemy. Now that we have been bought into freedom, we no longer have to live in the tomb; we are released from the chains of sin and death and into the light of life with Christ. Romans 6:4 puts it this way: “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” This is the living hope of the resurrection – that we don’t have to live weighed down by sin and the lies of the enemy. Instead, we get to experience the freedom of the new resurrected life that Christ has bought for us. Sometimes this transition to living in the freedom Christ has already given us can be difficult. We sometimes still live in the “tomb” of the enemy’s lies and feel trapped by sin patterns. If you’re struggling to leave the tomb and come into the light of freedom in Christ, each of us at SureHope would love to help you experience the hope of the resurrection personally in your life.
